It's About Time
Summer Screen Scene
Need a few family-friendly movies to
grab everyone’s attention? This summer has four new flicks
guaranteed to appeal to the kid in all of us.
Try Marmaduke, the lovable Great Dane who always manages to entertain. This PG-rated film features the voices of Owen Wilson as Marmaduke, George Lopez as his feline friend Carlos, Kiefer Sutherland as the arch nemesis and singer Fergie as the canine love interest. Follow the big pooch and his “step-brother” cat as they move to Orange County, Calif., to meet new friends and, as always, create mischief.
Forever green, the big ogre is back with Shrek Forever After, featuring an all-star cast of Mike Myers as Shrek, Cameron Diaz as Fiona, Antonio Banderas as Puss in Boots, Eddie Murphy as Donkey and Julie Andrews as Queen. This latest release takes the crew back in time to a world where ogres are hunted. Will Shrek save the day?
Always a favorite, Disney’s Toy Story 3 finds cowboy Woody, action-figure Buzz Lightyear and a cast of characters searching for a new home when Andy leaves for college. With such stars as Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Don Rickles, Wallace Shawn, this G-rated film will take adults back to their childhood and brings smiles to the whole family.
The remake of Karate Kid stars Jackie Chan as the mentoring maintenance man and Jaden Smith (son of Hollywood duo Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith) as the new kid on the block. While this flick is set in China, it still deals with issues regarding bullying and discipline as did the original 1984 original version. While the movie is rated PG, the length of the movie – 140 minutes – may be too long for the younger crowd.
