It's About Time
Strong Families are at the Center of Strong Communities
National Family Week Set for November 22-28, 2009National Family Week embraces the premise that children live better when their families are strong, and families are strong when they live in communities that thrive. This year, Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) will join thousands of people and organizations across the United States during the week of Thanksgiving to celebrate the connections they have with their families and communities.
BGCA understands that strengthening the family unit gives children a better chance to live productive lives. One way to strengthen the relationship and promote more togetherness is through the family dinner. The benefits of the family dinner go far beyond the actual food on the table. It is the building block of a solid family structure, and has been linked to good grades and less substance abuse among young people.
As you prepare to celebrate National Family Week in your community, BGCA encourages you to visit the Family PLUS (Parents Leading, Uniting, Serving) Web site and download a free copy of Just Add Family. The book features some of our Clubs’ favorite family recipes and ideas about how to bring families together at the dinner table.
